You will learn how to modify the environment for a child with special needs so they remain safe and can develop in their environment.
The courses you take for an associate degree in early childhood education include Foundations of Early Childhood Education, Infant and Toddler Development, Health, Safety and Nutrition. You will also take Art, Music and Language, Written Communication, Childhood development, Guiding Children's Behavior, Math, Science and Social Studies, Speech and Children with Differing Disabilities.
You will also take Family and Community Relationships, Curriculum Planning, Introduction to College mathematic, Introduction to Psychology and Sociology, Administrating an Early Childhood Education program and Economics.
Although some colleges will have course listings with different titles for their courses, they are all the same. These courses are mandatory for obtaining an associate degree in early childhood education.
Careers in Early Childhood Education
After completing your associate degree in early childhood education, you will be ready for a position as a program director or an in-home day care facility. You could also take a position as a lead teacher in a day care center, an assistant teacher in a childcare center or an assistant teacher in a special education class or kindergarten and elementary school setting.
The position that you apply for will depend on the age of the children you wish to work with. Most day care centers have different age requirements for the children in their care. As an assistant teacher in a school system, you can choose to work with any age group in the elementary school system.
